Canberra District Wines
The cool-climate Canberra District wine region is located around Canberra in the northern part of the ACT and includes the towns of Bungendore, Murrumbateman and Yass in New South Wales. Winemaking in the Canberra region began over 160 years ago but saw a significant resurgence in the 1970s, and has in recent years cemented itself as an important area for the production of quality Shiraz and Shiraz Viognier blends.
Another popular grape variety thriving in the region is Riesling. Most of the Canberra District wineries are within 30 minutes’ drive from the city of Canberra.
