Orange Wines
The Orange Wine Region is located in the Central Ranges of New South Wales, three and a half hour’s drive west of Sydney and is one of Australia’s youngest wine regions. Despite vineyards only being planted commercially in the 1980s, by the mid-’90s the region had exploded, making a name for itself as a top producer of quality Australian wines.
Orange is Australia’s highest altitude wine region with vineyards 600-1150metres above sea level. Altitude combined with fertile basalt soil from the extinct volcano Mount Canoblas, climate, and temperature allows Orange winemakers to produce some of the best Australian Chardonnay’s as well as Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Merlot, and Shiraz.
